Veterinary nurses

terinary Nurses and Animal Nursing Assistants are a crucial part of our practice, providing daily support to our vets.

We are a Veterinary Nurse Training Practice and many of our qualified staff started with us as Animal Care Assistants. They are all managed by our Head RVNs.

Larni Maidment

RVN  Head Nurse

Larni joined the practice in 2005 and did all of her training with us, she qualified in 2010 and became our Head Nurse in October 2014.

Larni enjoys all of her nursing duties but in particular she loves caring for the hospitalised inpatients.  She gets great pleasure out of nursing an animal back to good health and seeing them go home looking well.

Outside of work, if she's not socialising with her friends, Larni likes to spend her time being a bit of a geek, chilling out in her pyjamas, watching films/tv box sets or playing computer games with her husband.  She also plays for a Frome skittles team with her husbands family but is still a bit of a beginner!

Larni has just bought her first house and is extremely excited about being able to fill it with lots of cats!

Rebecca Brown

RVN Deputy Head Nurse

Rebecca has been working here since 2003, qualified in 2013 and became our Deputy Head Nurse in October 2014.  She really enjoys her job and has made some great friends. Outside of work Rebecca enjoys shopping and going to the cinema. Becky is also very keen on knitting.

Rebecca is married with a family.

Lyndsey Salter

RVN  Nurse

Lyndsey joined the team as a 17 year old and we have been thrilled to see her complete her studies whilst here, qualifying as a nurse in 2007 . Lyndsey has also become a qualified assessor, meaning she can help train our student nurses and see them through their own qualifications. Lyndsey enjoys the surgical side of being a nurse, assisting in procedures and providing intensive care to animals as they recover from operations. She says the best part of the job is seeing a pet go home healthy, to happy owners. Despite a busy social life, Lyndsey finds time to go horse riding, as well as looking after her children and  also two beautiful cats, Howard & Poppy, who she rescued as farm kittens.

Joanna Pointon

RVN  Nurse

Jo has been with the practice for over 9 years. She started working here doing 10 weeks work experience, and has worked her way to being a qualified nurse in 2008. Jo works mainly in the kennels looking after our in-patients during their stay. Outside of work Jo loves baking and spending time with her  husband and daughter, her miniature poodle "Esther", her British short hair cat "Betty" and her three guinea pigs. Jo also enjoys country sports, reading and movies.

Jo is now on maternity leave after the arrival of her second child.

Avril Hall

RVN Nurse

Avril qualified in January 2017.

She joined us in November 2013 on a voluntary basis to meet the criteria needed for studying the animal nursing assistant course she was enrolled in, and we took her on in a permanent role as a trainee nurse shortly after.

She has many pets including a  border collie, 4 ragdoll cats, 2 tortoises, 2 budgies and some fish!

Having so many animals at home to look after  helped Avril to decide on a career change to become a Veterinary Nurse.  She particularly likes working in kennels and helping the patients recover from their operations/illnesses.

Katie Matthews

RVN Nurse

Katie joined Garden Vets at the beginning of April.

Katie has been qualified for seven years after getting her Bachelor of Science in Veterinary nursing. Whilst having experience in management within the veterinary practice she loves working in emergency critical care with patients who need her the most. Katie wants to develop her skills as a teacher and clinical coach!
At home Katie enjoys gardening and socialising! She also has a gorgeous cat called Katkoot.

Samantha Stevens

Sam has been with the practice since February 2008, she qualified as an Animal Nursing Assistant and is now  training to become a Veterinary Nurse.

Sam is kept busy looking after her daughter but still finds time to enjoy horse riding and country sports, and has two dogs.

Alisha Duncan

Alisha joined us in April 2013 and is a trainee veterinary nurse.  In her spare time, Alisha loves to ride horses, and has NVQ1 and 2 in equine care. She also has a BHS stage 1 and is currently working on her NVQ3.

Alisha rehomed a hand-reared kitten from the practice, PJ, who keeps her busy at home.

Amyleigh Evans

Amyleigh joined the practice in June 2015, she also gained her BSc in Animal Science and Management in June 2015.

She has recently been to Poland tracking their 3 largest mammals Wolves, Bears and Lynxes.

Amyleigh has a unique interest in exotics and also loves a variety of other animals. She has a leopard gecko called “Reo” and 2 cats called “Baz” and “Gus”.

Kate Fox

Kate is a Trainee Veterinary Nurse who joined the practice in September 2015. Her love of writing led her to study a degree in Creative Writing at The University of Winchester. However, she often found herself writing about animals in modules such as Writing and the Environment and Non-Fiction for Children. Her dissertation was a Historical Fiction novella about one of the first Veterinarians in Victorian England.

After completing her degree, she decided to pursue her interest of animals further and will be studying her Veterinary Nursing Diploma at Bath College. She is interested in reading, writing, festival going and home crafts. After completing the 5K Race for Life in June 2015, Kate is continuing to run in the hope of competing the 10K run next year. She has also volunteered for the Nest Box Challenge with The Hawk Conservancy Trust and was filmed for BBC Springwatch in 2012.

Kate has a hamster called Pumpkin and is particularly interested in Rabbit Care. Through her studies, she hopes to specialise in their treatment and promote various aspects of care such as training, living requirements and diet.
